Costs of doing this race

There is the $450 entry fee. I had another $250 entry fee for the Orlando race. I spent $50 on some swim trunks, goggles, and body glide. I spent $250 on a replacement helmet and other replacement bike gear. $200 on (2) new pairs of running shoes. Add in travel and lodging. I am nearly at $1000 and I haven't even started yet.

Bicycle assesment

I haven't rode with a speedometer in 5 years. I needed to install one for mileage. Since I have to extend my long rides, I need to be able to measure my distances. However I can now see my speeds. What I saw was not impressive. It was blowing pretty hard. I think these were the windiest conditions I have experianced ever on a bike. I hope that Hawaii will not blow harder. Anyway, I averaged 17. I think with my forecasted training, I can only improve. Lets say I don't improve, it is windy and because of the hills, I slow to 16mph. That puts me at 112/16 = 7 hours. That still leaves about 10 hours for a marathon and swim. 112/17 = 6:35. I was able to avg nearly 20mph for my only other Ironman.

Been away for awhile.

OK, so I have jumped back in the rat race. I am getting that back in control. Finished my taxes. Won a spot in IMHawaii, been doing chores, and oh yeah, training.

Last week was a bz week. On the news, talking bout the IM Hawaii with the wife.

This week I have been thinking and tryinng to develop my goals. I am searching for the reason that will get me to that finish line. I am also trying to work on my hawaii trip. How many days, how many islands, etc. Lots, lots to do.

I have started to read what others have written about the bike. I read that it is possible to do the entire 112 miles AGAINST the wind!!!

I will also spend time to figure how to incorporate that into my training. Need practice....
