I am going to miss my Apple Mac Pro

My mac Pro and my office. I almost had it done. I am still waiting for a few things. If my house is destroyed, I may never get to where I am today. I have a lot of money, time, energy, thought. It was coming out so cool and it is just a few weeks shy of being complete.

Maybe it will still be here when I get back. I am not planning on being back for at least a couple of weeks.

I will miss you home office and Mac Pro.

I sit here unable to go to sleep. This may be the one. I have to leave tomorrow. I am leaving my house. I will be back, but will my house be here? Pray for all of us! Pray for the suffering that will soon happen to so many. I stand to lose worldly possessions. Others will lose so much. Life, hope, ... , innocent animals will be left behind ... again. I hope all turns out OK. The world awaits.

Waiting for the hurricane

Hurricane is a major distraction. I ran 2 miles yesterday and I just quit and walked home. I get easily distracted with such. Today I have way too much to do. I have to go to the grocery before the crowds show up.

I have to check the generator. I have to paint my closet doors. Especially if I want to complete the office.

Doors are in, rug is in, shelves are in.

I should finally be finished the office this holiday weekend. Unless Gustav wreaks my weekend.

I move daughter yesterday.

More thoughts on my network ...

I am going to go all out with Apple.

I am not going to rush out and buy one right away. But I am beginning my research. I am thinking mac mini and external storage.

Hurrican Gustav looms about a week away

This hurricane is both exciting and scary. We all know the potential. We all had time to abandon this area. What now? We wait and see. This will be interesting to watch. Hopefully from afar.

Yesterday I ran 6 miles. I did 10 minutes on the arc trainer.

Thoughts on my network ...

I have a network. It is an adequate network. It is reliable. It is backed up daily. But I am obsessed with improving it. Why?

I know I will be in trouble if it goes down. Why? Because I have not planned for a bare metal restoration.

I have tweaked the files and I cannot remember all of the files that I have messed with.

So some thoughts:

1) I can buy a new harddisk and place it in this old computer I have. Maybe it will work, maybe it won't. Cost: $300 - $400. I can do some hacking and convert this machine to be a time machine also.

I will need to buy a monitor. The monitor may or may not be useful. I really need to redo the closet downstairs.

2) I can buy an apple time-machine. This will be $500 and have a lot of cool factor. It will be new (reliable). It will be able to back up the computers.

3) I can buy a mac-mini. And have ultimate cool factor. I would have to also buy external hard-drives. This would be the most expensive and would really just replace option 1.

More thoughts on this later.

I am confused totally about what to buy and which direction to go. I guess I really need to focus on what I want to accomplish rather than just start buying equipment.

August 29th - three years ago.

Three years ago. I had just finished summer school. I was preparing for what would hopefully be my last semester. Me and wifie were looking at property near Baton Rouge. Hurrican Katrina was not even supposed to hit anywhere near LA. Life was going on. We were planning to attend a dinner Sunday night in the French Quarter, the 28th. Saturday was uneventful and I was going to cautiously monitor the situation. I wake in the middle of the night Saturday and decide to get the hell out.

We ended up over at my sis-in-law. I brought my books to study. Monday I wake to heavy breezes and terrible weather. I end up staying outside burning a never ending pile of wood. The storm does not appear to be bad from our vantage point. Little did we know! We lost our cable connection, so we had to rely on air waves and little tvs.

Monday night we started seeing some of the footage. Wifie and mom-in-law were devestated. I was not happy being in someone else's home. We cleaned up around the place from the wind damage. I took walks and was mostly bored. Wifie and myself were jittery and nervous. We made trips to the gas station topping off our tanks because of the potential shortage of fuel. The sights of human suffering were immediatly apparent. I saw famalies living in their cars. It is pathetic. We are all reduced to nothing at storm time. We are all equals.

Tuesday, we were able to confirm that we still ahd a house to return to. Thoughts of "did we have employment" etc began popping into our head. Wifie did not want to return, but I was determined. We returned together in the jeep. Things were moderatly messed up.

Wifie starts communicating with work and returns on Wednsday. I return to BR to get a generator. We start thinking of how we can live under the conditions. We ended up being luck. Power crews are everywhere. I hang around the house and help others when I can. There is a red cross station set up in a parking lot. I listen to the radio. We do not get any television coverage.

Yesterday - it rained

It was raining. I had to hang around to see if I was to help son-in-law move. We didn't. I needed the break. I just hung around the house.

I did Ironman Hawaii. I bought and paid for a Porsche. I went from worker to group lead to CAD Manager. Got my finances in order. In the process of re-doing my house.

Today it was lightning when I went to swim. I ended up running 6 miles then I did a short swim. Anyway - I am getting results. I am off the rest of the day. I am considering what I want to do with my time.

Here I sit at 170 lbs. This week will be a defining week. I am off of vacation. My diet can be better. My exercise will continue. I will choose what and how to eat. What will I weigh at the end of the week?

I rode my 25 mi @16.5 mph

I ran/walked 2 miles after. The run was kind of tough. Maybe tomorrow, I will run before I ride.

Friday - 170 lbs

OK, I have been eating bad. Deserts, etc! But I am a rock solid 170 lbs. I swam yesterday. I was able to knock out (5) 100's with 30 secs rest. The effort was very uncomfortable. I swam (2) 500's and a lot of kicking and stroke drills. I did weights. I was very fatigued yesterday, but took a nice nap.
