I had a successful training week last week. My daughter is getting married this week, so I have decided to take a day off from training. Well maybe not a day off. How about just less on the bike?

Insecurities?
Insecurities?
Thats what I like about IM training. The training brings you to your knees by humbling you. Occasionally you can conquor it. The training is full of both bad and good days. There are a few great and not so great days sprinkled in.
Well on Sunday, I got my first 100 mile ride in. It has been at least 5 years since I rode 100 miles. The ride was very eventful. It was a confidence builder. I wish they could all be so easy. I am still a little sore.

Insecurities
I did my 50 miler yesterday on the bike.
I don't even know how I am going to do 100 today. I just do not like sitting on a bike for more than 3 hours. I will find the strength somehow. I just glanced at my calander. I have 13 weeks left, so that means I only have to do 11 more long rides.
Swimming news. There isn't any. I am not concerned about the swim.
Weight news: I am just maintaining my weight training.
Running news: I am not feeling any of the aches and pains. I am scheduled to do two back to back 2 mile runs this week. I will see how my achiles holds up.
Biking news: I hate long bike rides.
IPOD news: Thank you Apple for inventing the IPOD. The last ironman I trained with a radio. I NEVER want to do that again. I hate commercial radio......
Bike supplies: I ordered some more supplies. New Tires, new rear derailler, new tubes.
I plan on doing major maintenance 3-4 weeks out from the race. Then perhaps a minor tune up 1 week before I leave for Kona.
Cool thing I experianced yesterday. I started my ride before the sun came up and experianced a beautiful sunrise.

Back on track
Ordered some new bike shoes, but I have to find time to pick em up.
I rode 30 yesterday against wind out and wind shifted. I rode against the wind on the way back.I did spinning class and weights, stretching twice.
I have to work in the morning and I am going to ride today in the afternoon.
How about that heat? It will be a miserable one. I am looking forward to seeing how my achilies does with my planned run this morning.

Slept bad last night
I had a good workout at the gym yesterday, but bad day at work yesterday. I came home and had cocktails instead of riding. I got up late and just ran and stretched. I missed my masters swim practice.
But I am feeling better today. Anticipate another shitty day at work.

I am burned. I have been mostly wearing biking shorts. I wear speedos to swim in. So I needed to tan in my speedos to darken that milky white skin. I stayed out 2.5 hours and I burned. This happened Sunday. I am hoping to be able to put on my biking shorts on twice today.
Sunday I rode 50 miles.
Monday. I swam. I ran 2 miles. I was scheduled to run 1.5 miles. I am attempting to advance to week 5 milage. I feel my achiles this morning. Should I drop back or try to push it?? I will see how it reacts the rest of the day.

90 miles
These mountains are 90 miles away. That is the distance that I rode yesterday.
Yesterdays ride was full of surprises. The end of the ride is always difficult. However, I got caught in a rainstorm. The rain was nice and soft. It was almost like taking a nice refreshing shower. The rain was so much better than the heat that I normally ride in.
I am looking forward to doing 50 today.

Preparing for week 14
OK. Hawaii will be an adventure for me. I am not sure what to expect. The last time I did an IM, I was so serious about all aspects of preperation (diet, schedule of workouts, doing ALL workouts, etc). This time, I have no real plan. I am missing workouts; I am drinking alcohol. My running is all but non existant.
And - I am OK with all of it. Because I do not have purpose this time around.
Anyway. I did my Tuesday 30 miler. Wed, did my swim, run, and stretch. Thursday, weights, spin, and skipped the evening ride.
Friday, I did 50 miles, swam, ran.
My legs feel unbelievably great. There is no fatigue, soreness. I don't know weather to keep with the PT's recommended distances or start increasing the distances.

Tuesday report
Did 45 minutes on the stationary bike, then did a full body weight set, 0 mintes on the arc trainer, stretched, then 10 minutes in the cool dip.
Went to my sucky job, then rode thirty miles on the levee. Oh yeah, I left work early. I always like to leave work early.
Today - I hope to swim 1.5 hours, and run my 1.25 miles and do my manditory stretching.
Overall I feel pretty good. I am experiancing the slightest pain while running. But afterwards I feel great. I am not experiancing the aches and fatigue that comes with running.

Less than 15 weeks till IMHawaii
On Sunday I got my ride up to 85. I attempted to also do an 85 miler on Friday but I quit early. My weight is hovering a little below 160. I ran on Friday for the first time. Monday (yesterday) I did my second run. I ran 1.25 miles. Yes and I can feel it when I just got out of bed. I had visions of advancinng my distances from the prepared sheet that the PT gave me. But I might not be able to. We will see - time will tell.
It has been hot here and I have gotten some exposure to wind. Will I be ready for the hawaian winds and heat? Who knows?
I changed out my cassette and put on a new chain. I went with a 9 speed and have switched to lower gearing for th hills of Hawaii. The gears are further apart, so it is kind of a pain. I have some time to get me used to it.
I have a few more things to get prior to my trip.

Happy Fourth
Swam on Monday with the masters, some weights and my now normal, long stretching routine.
Today - I decided to take it easy today. I am just going to ride to the park and back. 50 miles.
I got my new 9 speed casette. I wanted to get it early for Kona. I want to get it on and put some miles on it. It iis larger gears for the hills. I will try it out. In a couple more weeks, I think I may even try a compact crank.

Officialy 16 weeks out
Sixteen weeks - does not sound long. Four months - sounds long.
Sixteen weeks - a school semester. Thats really long.....
I did my eighty miler on the bike. Not a lot of speed, but much faster than Friday. The weather was easy on me. Eighties and cloudy. Friday was brutal. I will see my PT on Thursday and hopefully we can start running a few miles. Tommorrow I plan on another bike ride. 85 miles. My total for a close 5 day period would be Th 30, Fr 80, Sun, 80 Tue 85 = 275. Thats a lot of miles for me.
Saw my grandkids yesterday and had a blast with them.
Wifey has started to get back in shape since I am in Hawaii. She has lost many pounds and lots of inches. She is getting pumped up over her success. She is even mouthing the words, endurance, duathlon and the such.
Happy fourth!!!!

Sunday Morning
Should be a great day. I have just ripped some new music for the ipod. I cleaned the IPOD a little yesterday.
Thursday rode 30 miles. Friday - swam, weights, stretching, 80 mile bike.
I rode in the heat of day. Temps got up to 100 degrees. I was fine for first 50 miles. I struggled on the back 30 miles. I had to stop several times. I don't know if I was getting heat exaustion or what. At one point, I was only 6 miles from the house and I had to stop. Anyway got my 80 in. I am going to do another 80 today. I am adding 5 miles a week to my long ride - up to 100. I expect to be at 100 in a few weeks.
The heat is a killer. I don't know if training in the heat is a good thing or bad thing. Hawaii will be hot no doubt.
Going to eat breakfast, set up my ride and leave for 6 am. See you on the levee.
Weight: I weighed 155.6 on Friday - the lowest in 5 years. I rode 80 - the greatest in 5 years.
Running: none. My pt said in a week or so. I asked specifically about IM Hawaii. He said that will be able to run a marathon by then. We will see. I believe.
