Test day

I am going to test if I ddid any damage running 18 miles 2 days ago. I plan on running 5-6 miles before/after spinning.

Yesterday I did a pretty full swim workout. I also completed installation of my compact cranks, new tires, pedals, chain, tubes.

I have some small adjustments, but I think that I can ride as is.

I have reganed all of my lost confidence.

I did my 18 miler yesterday and all was well. In fact it was better than well. The weather was fantastic. Cool, clear. It was the kind of weather that we rarely get around here. I started slow and accelerated through the run. I felt as if I could have made 20. Common sense told me to stop. Common sense also said that I should have not finished as hard as a I did. My achilies was hurting and sore all day.

I woke this morning and I think that it is OK, but I am not going to run on it today. I am going to do a hard swim workout.

I am re-attempting my long run today

My long run was a disaster last Sunday. I am re-attempting it today. I will go work later than normal.

Yesterday's swim was a hard workout for me. I think that I am going to try and focus on swimming harder faster more intense workouts. I need some confidence in the swimming area.

More setbacks.

Setbacks! I can recover.

Minor glitches.

I attempted to run yesterday morning. I was still dehydrated. I was only able to run about 4 miles. The reason: I took my wife to th movies instead of staying put and rehydrating. I am going into work late Tuesday. I will do my long run on Tuesday to make up for it.

Bicycle glitches. I attempted to change out my crankset and bottom bracket. It has been many years and everything is frozen. The parts I needed to get off, I got off. The bottom bracket was supposed to go on with this special tool. I didn't have it so I just put a pair of pliers and scarred the shit out of it. I never did get my pedals off of the old cranks, so I ordered a new pair. I punctured 2 tubes on my rear tyre.

So I am waiting for my package that has my new tubes and pedals.

Good news: my legs, feet ankles seem to be OK. I have all of the protein powder I need. I have to check my GU supply.

I have one more month to get ready

Yesterday I did my 100 miler and followed with a run. The run was unsucccessful. My heart rate spiked up, I went anarobic, my ears would clog up. I am blaming it on dehydration. I was gulping water down on the end of the ride. I will focus on being properly hydrated the day before and drinking and drinking.

The plan for next week: Do my long run in the afternoon (Friday).
Sat: Long ride - but make sure I am hydrated.

I begin one of my last 100 milers

I am finally getting to enjoy my 100 milers. I am a little tired at the end. AND I must run afterwards. Today I will really focus mentally on the run. It is time to really focus on mental toughness. I must learn to be tough mentally.

Yesterday I got some of Hawaii wind and it didn't really affect me. I was few tenths/mile slower, but it didn't really affect me. I rode sixty and ran six. My total running for the week so far is: 16.5 + 6 = 22.5

Yesterday's ride was enjoyable. I hope today's is as well.

Friday

Yesterday I did a spin and ran six miles.
This morning I will swim, run and ride this afternoon.
My running totals are M = 0, T = 7.5, W = 3, T = 6.

Monday was a rest day - Tuesday run

Yesterday - I ran 7.5 miles.

Last weeks running: 15 + 3 + 24.5 = 42.5 miles

Not bad, eh? My easy days are over for the week. There is nothing but work ahead. Also there is the lottery. Maybe I can win 200 million!!!!!!

Anxiety still

OK - Good news and bad. Good news. I made it 15 miles yesterday and my feet seem to be in good shape. Bad news is that I did some walking. I really just did about 14 miles of running. My avg pace was over 10 minutes. That would work out to a 5 hour marathon.

I think that I will attempt to try a 10 minute pace this coming weekend. I will also try and tough it out. I have three more runs and I view it as an opportunity to work on my mental toughness.

I am taking a rest day today. I deserve it.

Anxiety

Anxiety - I am getting nervous. I have but only 34 days. I have 3 more 100 mile rides.

Yesterday I did a 3 mile run after my ride. Well I walked a couple of times. The day was overcast and sunny. I seemed to do pretty good under the shade, but was pretty miserable in the sun which caused me to walk.

26 miles of running still seems undoable for me. I will attempt 6 this week, followed by 9 the following week, and 12 the last week. Those ar really long workouts. I was below 155 after my workout which is always nice to see.

I checked for a tri before the ironman and there was none that would work for me. I am just going to have to suck it up and get in the water unprepared. I will be OK. Focus!

Today on the agenda: Run 15 miles. I hope all will be OK. My leg felt OK yesterday during my run after the ride. My tendon below my knee is starrting to bother me a bit. I was sore when I got out of bed today. I think that I am coming together. I am starting to expect good things.

My bike works better than it ever has

I rode my bike 50 miles yesterday. I swam and ran 6 miles. My running is up to 24.5 total for the week. I may attempt 3 miles after my 100 mile ride today.

I just ordered a compact crank. I am keeping my rear cassette. I will see how the gearing feels. I might be fine with the current setup, but I really want the insurance of lower gearing.

Great news - I have a bike

OK - Got my bike back. It cost a little bit. I will ride it today and see if it was worth it.

I did spinning and yesterday and ran six miles. Today I will swim, run six and ride fifty.

I am still thinking about going to the compact crank. I will probably order it this week. If I put it on next week, I will get at least 3 100 milers on it. I need to change my tires and make a final checklist.

Exciting!!!

Nervous about not having a bike.

My bike is getting repaired. It was supposed to be finished today. Maybe it still will be. There is some weird noises that the bike shop does not know exactly what is wrong. I dropped it off Saturday after my ride and hoped it would be finished for this week.

If I don't have my bike finished, I am not sure how I will train. I have my wife's bike. Maybe it is time to look at getting a second bike????

Yesterday I swam 2 miles. I ran 6.

My weekly running total is 12.5 so far. I plan to run 6 again and spin.

Time is running out

My countdown timer days 38 days. I am starting to get nervous. I need to call the bike shop and check on the progress. I hope all is well and I can get my bike back.

But the sooner I can get some stuff over with the better. After the race it will be grreat times ahead. Hopefully!

Yesterday I did a great spin class with an instructor I normally don't spin with. I ran my six miles and feel great. I plan on running and swimming today. Maybe a long swim today.

Monday's workout

Yesterday swam for 45 minutes. My right bicp is still bothering me a little so I cut my swim short.

I attempted to run and the achillies was aching so I only ran about 1/2 mile. I took the free time and did a strength session on the legs with a little lighter weights than I had been doing.

I stretched and left the gym. My weight was above 160.

I hope to spin and run this morning.

Monday, September 11, 2006

My countdown says 40 days

I did my twelve miler yesterday and i ended up with 29 total miles for the week. I will swim this morning and maybe do some running.

Saturday, September 09, 2006

Finished my 100 miler yesterday

I am going to do my 12 mile run today or tommorrow. I will shoot for today. I will run in the heat of the day because my grandkids will be here till 10 am. I have to then add commute time. I will be lucky to be out there by 12 noon.

I dropped my bike off to get repaired. There is a clunking noise going on in the steering tube or headset area. I hope that they can fix. I hope not to miss my ride next week. They promised me my bike back by Thursday. I may end up with a new fork. I hope not.

My ride was good. I didn't have the back pain that I have been experiancing. That is why I need my bike back. I need to keep training and rid myself of the pain.

I figure i can get in one 20 miler before Kona. I am coming back from the dead. I wish that I had time for many long runs, but at this point I will take what I can get.

5 more 100 milers

Good morning world! I have 5 more 100 milers before the race. I will try and do some running today after my ride also. I have taken the day off, but I still have to bring my bike to the shop and do a couple of errands so I cannot consume myself entirely with working out today.

The weather should be great. No wind, sunny, low humidity.

I ws wworried about my rrunning legs last week. i felt shin splints coming on, but the sensations have not apppeared again. I will attempt about 4 miles after my ride today. I don't want to jepordize my long run scheduled for tommorrow. 12 miles tommorrow. That will sum up to 5 + 5 + 6 + 4+ 12 = 32 miles. That is awesome for me.

Looking at the calendar, I should be able to increase my long run to 20 miles!!!!

If my legs hold out, I will not be in bad shape after all. I will have had more miles of cycling than last time. I am less fatigued.

We will see.....

Did my 100 miler yesterday

Did my 100 miler yesterday. I felt great. The morning sunrise was beautiful. The ride is turning fun for me. I think that the ride was my sixth.

Ended up having my first wreck. Got some r rash in some areas and I am stiff. I am lucky. Nothings broken.

I am going to run 5-6 miles this morning. I ran hills the other day, so maybe that is why I have developed the shin splint sensation. I will see today after my shorter run. Th grand kids are coming this weekend, so I am going to try and get my 100 miler in Friday. The work week is shot anyway.

Monday, September 04, 2006

My countdown says 47 days

Bad news. I am feeling tinges of shin splints. I just woke up and went out to get the paper. It is windy in the early morning hours. This will be a good day for experiancing the hawaii winds??

I just got back from SC and I don't have anything really scheduled for today except my ride. I think I will do it a little later. It is labor day and all is well. I hope it will be a successful ride.

I have family obligations this weekend so I don't know if Ican complete my scheduled workouts. Things will somehow workout???

Traveling - don't know how you all do it.

Traveling. I am here in Spartenburg/Greeenville, SC. Schedules and the unfamiliar surroundings are playing with me. I did get my 10 miler in yeaterday. My ankles feel OK. They were kind of sore yesterday, so I am not running today. I can't swim or bike so I am off today. Tommorrow I am traveling in a car for ten hours. So that ammounts to two days of recovery.

Yesterday I was at a BMW thing. It is like a yuppie heaven. We will again be in Youppie heaven all day. I really do not like the fanatic thing.

Deep down I do not like the large triathlon events. They are too fanatic to me. I am realizing that is why I like the training and the smaller events. I haven't done a small event in a long time. I should spend some more time focusing on smaller events rather than the large things. Maybe after Hawaii.
